John Hammond – Rough & Tough (SACD hibrid)

Over the course of his more than 50-year career, Grammy Award winner John Hammond has established himself as one of the most fascinating exponents of solo acoustic blues. Hammond, who rose to prominence during the folk revival of the 1960s, steered clear of the electric trends of that era and instead embraced a raw, unadulterated approach. With nothing more than his well-worn acoustic guitar, his harmonica strapped to his belt, and his expressive vocals, he captures the fiery essence and unfiltered power of the genre’s earliest pioneers. His uncompromising virtuosity and instinctive feel for the groove earned this groundbreaking solo album a Grammy nomination in the “Best Traditional Blues Album” category.

On “Rough & Tough,” the blues titan demonstrates his consummate mastery of his craft, tackling a handpicked selection of postwar Chicago standards as well as two of his own captivating original compositions. From the raw, foot-stomping groove of “Statesboro Blues” to the driving rhythm of the Muddy Waters classics and a swinging interpretation of “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” Hammond breathes new life into every measure.

Evosound is proud to present “Rough & Tough” – as part of the Chesky Original Masters Series – in the sonically brilliant Hybrid SACD format. This blues gem is a prime example of Chesky Records’ groundbreaking binaural 3D recording technology.

We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
