Harold Farberman – Concerto For Jazz Drummer / Carmen Suite (UHQCD)

American composer and conductor Harold Farberman studied percussion at the Juilliard School of Music and in 1951 became the youngest musician to become a full member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. While there, he took up composition studies, wrote his first original pieces, and received some attention. His output includes three operas, works for orchestra and chamber ensembles, film music, and compositions for dance companies.

This limited edition, numbered UHQCD includes a recording of his „Concerto for Jazz Drummer & Orchestra” by the Kroumata Percussion Ensemble with drummer Louis Bellson, as well as recordings with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra.

UHQCD stands for Ultimate High Quality Compact Disc and is a joint development of the Japanese CD replication company Memory-Tech and the Audio Quality CD Company from Hong Kong. Unlike conventional CDs, UHQCDs are not pressed from polycarbonate, but cast from a photopolymer and cured with UV light. Another layer of high-purity polycarbonate is applied to the softer photopolymer for scratch protection. The combination results in significantly reduced reflection of laser light inside the CD and an unmatched precise edge transition between pits and lands of the CD. UHQCDs are 100% compatible with standard CD players. Musically, the result is a sound image strongly reminiscent of analog master tapes.
