“My Woman”, Angel Olsen’s third album, marked the definitive breakthrough for the exceptionally talented singer-songwriter: Included in the “Best Albums of 2016” lists by Pitchfork, NPR, NME, Mojo, Rolling Stone, The Guardian, and other renowned media outlets, “My Woman” is an emotionally stirring exploration of identity, love, and hope – viewed through the lens of one of the leading voices of her generation.  On “My Woman,” the St. Louis-born artist moves away from the contemplative folk and vintage-inspired sounds she explored on her first two albums. The ten songs cover a spectrum of styles ranging from synth-pop and chamber music to country-western, rock ’n’ roll, and torch ballads. Her lyrics and arrangements showcase atmospheric diversity and timelessness.

Olsen initially composed many songs on the piano, later replacing the piano with synthesizer and/or Mellotron recordings on some tracks. “My Woman” literally wears many of its influences on its sleeve – Stevie Nicks, Nancy Sinatra, Roy Orbison, Dolly Parton, the Ronettes, even a nod to Mudhoney. Olsen is blessed with a voice, phrasing, and timing that every vocalist envies: Her instinct for when and where to place hooks and how to craft melodies proves just as distinctive as her sense of drama and dynamics. Olsen sings with a pronounced fearlessness that occasionally seems to stop time, causing her love stories to lay bare thoughts, memories, and longings with piercing authenticity.

Lovingly mastered from the original tapes at MoFi’s California studio and pressed on 180-gram vinyl by Fidelity Record Pressing, this LP (33 RPM) presents this classic for the first time in audiophile reference quality: Olsen’s captivating vocals now exhibit impressive clarity and openness. “My Woman,” recorded largely live at Vox Studios in Los Angeles, is brimming with atmosphere and shines with a previously unheard directness, spatiality, and attention to detail. The numbered LP, strictly limited to 2,000 copies and released to mark the 10th anniversary of MFSL, comes in a gatefold sleeve and features the iconic artwork, faithfully reproduced by Stoughton Printing.
