Sonny Rollins – Way Out West (Vinil 200g, LP dublu)

A classic of the genre! Rollins’ debut album with the Contemporary Records label! Immerse yourself in the timeless brilliance of Way Out West with the UHQR edition from Analogue Productions. Mastered by Bernie Grundman and carefully pressed at Quality Record Pressings, this audiophile version is a testament to one of jazz’s most impressive talents. First released in 1957, the album received 5 stars from the renowned Rolling Stone Jazz Record Guide and prompted Pitchfork to describe it as “an album that looks like a novelty and sounds like transcendence”.

The infamous 3 a.m. recording sessions featured Rollins’ saxophone floating above the bass of Ray Brown — former accompanist to Ella Fitzgerald — and the drums of Shelly Manne, one of the founders of West Coast jazz. Rollins had never played with either of them before. The open environment gives Rollins room for harmonic creativity. His saxophone artistry shines in every track!

From the swinging ‘I’m an Old Cowhand (From the Rio Grande)’, written by Johnny Mercer and popularised by Bing Crosby — a skilful blend of country and jazz — to Rollins’ haunting original composition and title track ‘Way Out West’, the album redefines jazz improvisation.

This limited edition is available in just 2,750 copies.

We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
