Sonny Clark Project (Vinil 180g, LP)

More than 15 years ago, “Greek jazz” was still flying under the radar of the cognoscenti. That is no longer the case: the Greek jazz scene is growing, flourishing and producing truly wonderful works. One need only think of the great releases by Petros Klampanis or Stravos Lantsias. The “Sonny Clark Project” is a jazz ensemble dedicated to interpreting and celebrating the works of renowned American hard bop pianist and composer Sonny Clark. The project aims to honor Clark’s legacy by performing his compositions and introducing his music to contemporary audiences. Sonny Clark, who was a major figure in the hard bop movement of the 1950s and 1960s, collaborating with notable artists such as John Coltrane, Art Farmer and Grant Green, contributed to numerous recordings that are now recognized standards.

Clark’s compositions are known for their complex melodies and sophisticated harmonies, making them a rich source of inspiration for modern jazz musicians – including Stjepko Gut (trumpet), Dimos Dimitriadis (alto saxophone), George Kontrafouris (piano), Olivier Gatto (bass) and Keith Copeland (drums), who succeed in breathing new life into Clark’s music without distorting the essence of his compositions. The brilliant sounding reissue of the Ikaros Music LP from 2020 is not only a must for all fans of Sonny Clark – it is destined to introduce new generations of listeners to the work of this brilliant musician.

The Hellenic Jazz Society record label began operating in June 2024 with the aim of producing high-fidelity albums of the local jazz scene. The steady rise of the Greek jazz scene has prompted “HJS” to promote talented Greek musicians at home and abroad. All Hellenic Jazz Society albums are recorded and pressed to high quality standards – with 180 grams of heavy vinyl and high-quality printed gatefold sleeves. HJS’s previous releases have been enthusiastically received by the music media, music lovers and audiophiles worldwide!

We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
