Violinist David Abel and pianist Julie Steinberg perform Debussy’s Sonata for Violin and Piano, Bartok’s Romanian Folk Dances and Brahms’ Sonata No. 1 in G major, Op. 78. This remarkable recording of a Guarneri violin accompanied by a Steinway comes very close to the real chamber music experience. As The Absolute Sound wrote in 2013: „This duo plays as if it were one.
David Wilson’s highly acclaimed recordings are an audiophile’s delight. The head of what is probably the world’s most exclusive loudspeaker manufacturer began recording musicians and music he himself appreciated in 1977. Always acoustic, always unamplified. For the violin and piano sonatas, he used a pair of Schoeps microphones and the Wilson Ultramaster, a heavily modified Studer tape recorder with electronics designed by John Curl. Wilson’s aim was to get as close as possible to the sound and music he was recording. In the years up to 1995, 33 tracks were created (27 of which were released), reflecting the way Wilson himself prefers to hear music live. The remastering for the Hybrid SACD from Analogue Productions was done by Kevin Gray.
We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
