Showcase 2013 (SACD hibrid)

In the years since the release of the first “Showcase” sampler in 2005, the music genre that the label had recorded had changed somewhat: Opus 3 opened up to styles such as bluegrass, Americana, and music inspired by the early days of pop and rock music. Nine of the thirteen tracks are vocal pieces – in contrast to earlier recordings, which were dominated by instrumental pieces and did not feature any classical music. From Maria Winther, B.B. Driftwood, East, and Dan & The Electros to Tomas Örnberg, whose album “Blue Five” was named Sweden’s best jazz album, “Showcase 2013” offers an impressively diverse musical journey. Eric Bibb is also featured here with a track from his album “Blues, Ballads & Worksongs,” which has received an incredible number of rave reviews! This compilation is intended to illustrate that despite minor changes in the recorded material, one thing remains constant: the highest possible quality of the recordings – something Opus 3 Records has been known for since its inception.

Opus 3 is an independent Swedish music label dedicated to recording timeless acoustic music such as jazz, blues, folk and classical. Founded in late 1976 by sound engineer Jan-Eric Persson, the label has made it its mission to reproduce voices and instruments as naturally as possible. To achieve this, Opus 3 selects recording environments with good natural. The label’s recording techniques were developed specifically for acoustic music and were originally based on the use of tube gear and “Blumlein” miking. In 2001, Opus 3 switched to digital eight-track technology and later to 16 channels – in the brand-new mixing and mastering studio designed and set up by Sweden’s leading acoustic engineer Lennart Nilsson to mark the label’s 30th anniversary. Apart from a few digital intermediate steps all processing is still done exclusively analog.
