Sam Cooke – The Best of Sam Cooke (SACD hibrid)

Sam Cooke had the nickname of the perennial number one at his label, RCA Victor, because it was safe to assume that every new song he released would storm the charts. At a time when R’n’B was still part of rock’n’roll, Cooke had the most hits after Elvis Presley and his debut album sold more than two million copies. His hit ‘Wonderful World’ with the famous lyric ‘Don’t know much about History’ is still a staple of every nightly radio programme.

The Analogue Productions Hybrid SACD presents the well-known songs in unrivalled sound quality. Where Cooke usually seems weary and almost depressed as he sings into the microphone, here we hear an energetic young man at the start of his career, and the stereo recordings are worlds more open and airy than one might expect. The drums, in particular, which are often relegated to the background, suddenly have power and precision, and the winds consist of individual instruments rather than a muddled background. This SACD is an example of how much lost musical information can be brought to light through re-mastering, and is highly recommended for fans of music from the 50s and 60s.

We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
