Miles Davis – Birth Of The Cool [Mono] (SACD hibrid)

This is a rarity even among jazz classics: Miles Davis’s 1957 album “Birth Of The Cool” was not only a huge success for the trumpeter – it is now considered a timeless classic that no jazz collection should be without, and has even become a catchphrase! A successful compilation series even bore this title. “Birth Of The Cool” marks Davis’s transition from bebop to cool jazz and was his first collaboration with master arranger Gil Evans.

Universal Music Japan’s exclusive and limited release of “Birth Of The Cool” is a unique project available in the Hybrid-SACD format. The remastering was handled by Kevin Gray, who previously contributed to the “Tone Poet” series. The cutting and remastering were performed using the original master tapes, and the highly acclaimed natural and warm sound conveys the experience of listening directly from an analog tape. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Miles Davis’s birth in 2026, the “Centennial Miles Davis SACD Selection” presents three titles as Hybrid-SACD editions, each featuring newly remastered audio and marking the first time these remastered sources have been released on SACD.
