These recordings were made in just five hours with the National Symphonic Winds conducted by Lowell Graham in the historic Hampton University Concert Hall (Hampton Roads, Virginia). Musicians from the finest military bands in the US and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra perform a lively selection of film scores and musical songs – from John Williams’ Olympic Fanfare (composed for the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles) to excerpts from Marry Poppins and West Side Story.
David Wilson’s highly acclaimed recordings are an audiophile’s delight. The head of perhaps the world’s most exclusive loudspeaker company, David Wilson began recording the musicians and music he loved in 1977. Always acoustic, always unamplified. For Center Stage, he used minimal Sennheiser microphones and the Wilson Ultramaster, a heavily modified Studer tape deck with custom electronics designed by John Curl. Wilson’s aim was to get as close as possible to the sound and music he was recording. In the years leading up to 1995, 33 tracks were created (27 of which were released), reflecting the way Wilson himself prefers to hear music live. The remastering for the Hybrid SACD from Analogue Productions was done by Kevin Gray.
We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
