Lee Morgan – Candy (XRCD24)

It is said that youth is wasted among the young. In very rare exceptional cases there are young people like Lee Morgan, who at the age of 20 presented his fifth album as a bandleader. Originally released in 1959 as Blue Note 1590, it would remain Lee Morgan’s only album with a quartet. The kid must have felt like a kid in a candy store.

Featuring Lee Morgan on trumpet, Sonny Clark on piano, Dough Watkins on bass and Art Taylor on drums. Lee Morgan blazes through the snappier standards and takes his time on the ballads to put some soul into the playing.

This track is part of a series of XRCD24 reissues from the Blue Note catalogue and has been remastered from the analogue stereo tapes at Oceanway Studios in Hollywood by Alan Yoshida, one of the inventors of the XRCD process. The sonic qualities of the XRCDs, newly released under the Audio Wave label, far exceed previous digitisations and in some cases sound considerably better than the original LPs. The XRCD comes with a lavishly designed booklet with excellent photographs.

We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
