Johnny Cash – At Folsom Prison (SACD hibrid)

Getting away from it all for a moment – what could be better than music? For the inmates of California’s Folsom Prison, Johnny Cash’s (second live performance) behind bars must have had a special significance in their dreary everyday lives.

At the time of this 1968 concert, Cash himself was going through a hard time with drug addiction, having been imprisoned for smuggling, and was only a few months clean and ready to play again. At Folsom Prison’ was his first album after this period and was an instant success despite the scepticism of his record company. Perhaps it was the connection between the fate of the prisoners and Cash’s own struggles to get through life that created a special atmosphere between him and his audience. Carefully chosen songs, bold statements about the American prison system, Cash’s stunning vocals and the passionate playing of the Tennessee Three, coupled with a truly enthusiastic audience, form the basis of an authentic and powerful contemporary document.

This numbered, limited edition 45 rpm double LP captures the energy of the concert with impressive fullness and spaciousness.

We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
