1965 marked an important turning point in John Coltrane’s career: that year, the great American saxophonist, who had shown a marked inclination to experiment with new styles since the beginning of his career, decided to cross the boundary into atonality and perform a series of free improvisations characterized by unprecedented passion and vitality. This highly original studio album combines two famous standards – a rousing version of “Chim Chim Cheree” and “Nature Boy” – with two original pieces that Coltrane had just written (‘Brazilia’ and “Song Of Praise”). In “Nature Boy,” Art Davis plays the second double bass, but apart from this deviation, the classic John Coltrane Quartet takes center stage on this album, with the bandleader accompanied by pianist McCoy Tyner, double bassist Jimmy Garrison, and drummer Elvin Jones. A true spectacle, thanks in part to the exceptional remastering work of the technicians.
To mark the 70th anniversary of Verve Records, Universal Music Japan is releasing a new series presenting the legendary catalog of the renowned label in impressively mastered, high-resolution sound quality. The limited edition Japan SHM-SACD (Single Layer) comes in a mini LP cardboard sleeve with OBI stripe, making Diana Krall’s “The Look Of Love” an absolutely collectible disc!
This title is an SHM SACD. This format is the further development of the single-layer SACD and uses a particularly light-transparent plastic (Super High Material). It allows a much better readability of the pit-land structures on the surface than is possible with hybrid SACDs. Universal’s SHM SACDs are generally re-digitized to DSD from the albums’ master tapes without any changes. SHM SACDs can be played on any SACD player. Please do not use L’Art du Son or alcohol-based cleaning agents. – Please note: All titles are designed by Universal Music as limited edition collector’s items for the Japanese market.
