John Coltrane – Blue Train (UHQCD)

The 1957 album „Blue Train” was the result of an agreement between Blue Note founder Alfred Lion and John Coltrane. In return for not only being available to the Miles Davis Band, but also working as a session musician for countless other titles on the label, Coltrane was promised an album of his own. „Blue Train” became the real solo breakthrough for the man with the angry tenor saxophone

In addition to John Coltrane, we hear Lee Morgan (trumpet), Curtis Fuller (trombone), Kenny Drew (piano), Paul Chambers (bass) and Philly Joe Jones (drums). The latter two may be best known as Miles Davis’ rhythm section. The result was one of the most important jazz albums of the 1950s and certainly the most important Coltrane album.

UHQCD stands for Ultimate High Quality Compact Disc and is a joint development of the Japanese CD replication company Memory-Tech and the Audio Quality CD Company from Hong Kong. Unlike conventional CDs, UHQCDs are not pressed from polycarbonate, but cast from a photopolymer and cured with UV light. Another layer of high-purity polycarbonate is applied to the softer photopolymer for scratch protection. The combination results in significantly reduced reflection of laser light inside the CD and an unmatched precise edge transition between pits and lands of the CD. UHQCDs are 100% compatible with standard CD players. Musically, the result is a sound image strongly reminiscent of analog master tapes.
