John Coltrane – Ballads (SACD single layer)

Coltrane’s first ballad album proved the unpleasant critics, who accused the free jazz musicians of the time of lacking skills, wrong: The „avant-gardist” Coltrane and his combo actually hit notes and mastered harmonies! The session builds on musical excerpts and well-known pieces by Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee or Ella Fitzgerald and shows the saxophonist in a quartet exploring a gentle way of playing.
