Heifetz was the leading figure among the exceptional Russian-Jewish musicians who dominated violin playing in the second and third quarters of the 20th century. As a technician, he was unsurpassed, and of all the artists of his time and later, only two or three could even begin to match his electrifying precision of execution. His diamond-sharp tone and rapid vibrato gave his playing a clarity that some found almost too perfect, even cold. Most conductors, violinists and audiences saw it differently: every Heifetz concert was inevitably sold out. Under the baton of Sir Malcom Sargent and accompanied by the New Symphony Orchestra of London, a wonderful recording of two concertos was made: Max Bruch’s “Concerto For Violin And Orchestra No. 1 In G Minor, Op. 26” and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Concerto In D Major No. 4, K. 218.”
The reissue of the “RCA Living Stereo Classical” series by Analogue Productions meets the highest audiophile standards: Bernie Grundman is responsible for remastering the original tapes.
