Up-and-coming jazz artists Donald Byrd (trumpet) and Phil Woods (alto saxophone) were regular members of the George Wallington Quintet in 1956/57. The bop pianist also plays with Art Taylor (drums) and Teddy Kotick (bass) on Jazz For The Carriage Trade. The recording dates from the time when Wallington was in charge of the music programme at the New York club Bohemia.
In addition to the three standards ‘Our Delight, Our Love Is Here to Stay’ and ‘What’s New’, the five play two Woods tunes (‘Together We Wail’ and ‘But George’) and Frank Foster’s ‘Foster Dulles’. The hybrid mono SACD appears in a mini-LP sleeve as part of a series of 50 reissues from the legendary Prestige label. There will be 25 mono and 25 stereo recordings. The mastering was done by Kevin Gray at his Cohearent Audio Studios.
We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
