14 titles from the heyday of swing, composed between 1930 and 1945, heard over and over again in the ballrooms and radio commercials of the world, re-recorded in 1961 and interpreted in a very personal way by Ella Fitzgerald. The jazz singer is accompanied by Herb Ellis (guitar), Gus Johnson (drums), Stan Levey (drums), Lou Levy (piano), Wilfred Middlebrooks (bass) and Joe Mondragon (bass). On ‘Clap Hands, Here Comes Charlie!’ we experience an Ella in top form with an excellent – and often underestimated – set. A good opportunity to rediscover some familiar classics.
This recording is part of a series of 25 Verve reissues on Analogue Productions. The original Analogue tapes were re-edited by senior mastering engineer George Marino at Sterling Sound in New York. Many of the tapes have been sent to other labels as copies for decades, but Sterling Sound works so closely with Universal Music, the owners of the Verve label, that they occasionally make an exception. The hybrid SACDs sound excellent and clearly outshine earlier digitisations.
We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
