Dick Schory’s New Percussion Ensemble – Music for Bang, Baaroom and Harp (SACD hibrid)

For music lovers, 1958’s Music For Bang, Baroom And Harp is legendary, and for the record industry, the instrumental classic is the first stereophonic recording to become a bestseller. One of the best-selling instrumental albums of the late 1950s and early 1960s, Music For Bang, Baroom And Harp remained on the Billboard, Record World and Cash Box charts for over two years.

The success of the album is based on a simple concept: around fifty different standard and exotic percussion instruments (including the manifold of a 1946 Chevrolet) are used in original compositions and standards, and whether polka, march or swing, the New Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Dick Schory plays with incredible precision and a great deal of wit. Music For Bang, Baroom And Harp was recorded at Chicago’s Orchestra Hall on 2 and 3 June 1958. Two custom-made Ampex 300-3 half-inch 3-track tape recorders recorded the eight percussionists and the musicians of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on piano, double bass, guitar, banjo and harp.

This release on Hybrid SACD offers improved clarity and richness of sound, bringing out the subtleties of the instruments and arrangements, thanks to Ryan Smith’s superb remastering from the original master tapes.

We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
