Dance Album of Carl Perkins [Mono] (SACD hibrid)

To mark the 70th anniversary of “Blue Suede Shoes,” Intervention Records is releasing the first album in the new “Sun Records Hi-Fi Series” – Carl Perkins’ groundbreaking rockabilly classic “Dance Album Of Carl Perkins” from 1957 – now finally as a Hybrid SACD! “Dance Album Of Carl Perkins” is packed with legendary tracks that have become rock standards and have been covered by artists such as Elvis Presley, the Beatles, and many others. As great as many of these interpretations from the past decades may be, no one has ever performed these songs with more swag than Carl Perkins on “Dance Album Of Carl Perkins”! The album’s hits naturally include “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Honey Don’t,” “Matchbox,” and “Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby,” as well as cover versions of “Only You” and “Wrong Yo Yo,” plus 5 bonus tracks not included on the LP version.

Intervention Records worked closely with Sun Records and the Archive Team at Iron Mountain to compile a completely NEW set of A/B reel master tapes for this release. In the late 1960s, when Shelby Singleton purchased Sun Records from the legendary Sam Phillips, the original 7“ single master tape reels were transferred to many different sets of 1/4” tapes. Identifying any single tape as “THE master” for a given song is no longer possible, but Sun and IR’s Shane Buettner spent hours and hours listening to tapes and identifying the absolute best-sounding tape version of each and every song. Kelly Pribble, Mark Berger, and Scott Delaney at Iron Mountain made flat 1/4“ transfers under our direction to a newly minted set of 1/4” A/B reels for this release. For the CD/SACD bonus tracks, Iron Mountain made DSD transfers directly from the analog master tapes. Gus Skinas at the Super Audio Center prepared Kevin Gray’s mastered DSD files for the original repertoire and mastered the bonus tracks in the DSD domain using Gray’s mastering notes as a guide. Of course, IR paid no less attention to the album art, and very special thanks are owed to Joe Goldmark, who loaned us his very hard-to-find original jacket for color reference. The album art was, of course, restored by IR Art Director Tom Vadakan and authentically realized by the wizards at Stoughton Printing.
