Get a front row seat at New York’s Top of the Gate jazz club! The recording captures two complete sets by the Bill Evans Trio with bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Marty Morell on 23 October 1968 at Art D’Lugoff’s legendary club.
The intimate atmosphere of the evening is captured in an atmospheric way, and the recording quality literally puts the listener on stage. Thanks to skilful microphone placement, the usual audience chatter of the time is kept in the background and the focus is on the great playing of the young trio. The musicians had only just found each other, but the chemistry was already absolutely right; no wonder that years of collaboration followed. Evans fans can look forward to early recordings of some of the classics from his repertoire, mastered by René Laflamme and André Perry.
