Aco Bocina – Mediterranean feeling in the Bibiena Theatre (UHQCD)

This recording was made in 2004 at the Bibiena Theatre in Mantua, famous for its exceptional acoustics. Captivating and full of spontaneity, Aco Bocina, known as the world’s best mandolinist, delights the audience with Mediterranean sounds and, in a reference to Mozart’s concert to inaugurate this theatre in the 18th century, even with his famous ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’.

Aco Bocina began playing the guitar at the age of 9. His passion for the mandolin led him to write and play music, and he toured Europe as a young man, both as a soloist and as the first mandolinist in large orchestras. Bocina, who owns several rare mandolins and guitars, has released several albums over the years, worked on the soundtracks for the documentary ‘Paralelo 24’ and the film ‘El Soñador’ in 2003 and 2004, and was awarded the ‘Libero Bovio’ prize in 2016.

UHQCD stands for Ultimate High Quality Compact Disc and is a joint development of the Japanese CD replication company Memory-Tech and the Audio Quality CD Company from Hong Kong. Unlike conventional CDs, UHQCDs are not pressed from polycarbonate, but cast from a photopolymer and cured with UV light. Another layer of high-purity polycarbonate is applied to the softer photopolymer for scratch protection. The combination results in significantly reduced reflection of laser light inside the CD and an unmatched precise edge transition between pits and lands of the CD. UHQCDs are 100% compatible with standard CD players. Musically, the result is a sound image strongly reminiscent of analog master tapes.
