Tina Brooks – Back To The Tracks (XRCD24)

Harold „Tina” Brooks could have gone down in jazz history as a tenor sax legend with his skill, style and creativity during his lifetime. His hard bop solos were soulful, inventive and stimulating. His misfortune was that three of his four albums recorded for Blue Note were not released until after his death. Today it’s hard to understand how this could have happened, because Brooks not only plays fantastically, but is accompanied on „Back To The Tracks” by such greats as Jackie McLean, Blue Mitchell, Kenny Drew, Art Taylor and Paul Chambers.

All the more gratifying, then, that Alan Yoshida and Joe Harley have devoted themselves to remastering the recording. Part of a whole series of XRCD24 reissues from the Blue Note catalog, this track was remastered from the analog stereo tapes at Oceanway Studios in Hollywood. The sonic qualities of the XRCDs reissued under the Audio Wave label far exceed previous digitizations, and in some cases sound considerably better than the original LPs. The XRCD comes with a lavishly designed booklet with excellent photographs.

We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
