The Oscar Peterson Trio – We Get Requests (SACD hibrid multicanal)

On this 1964 album, the Oscar Peterson Trio plays the very hits they have been asked to play at club concerts in recent years. At the time of recording, the trio had been playing together for five years and had an almost telepathic rapport. The album is highly regarded in hi-fi circles, and the cut bass on ‘You Look Good to Me’ in particular has been used for decades as a benchmark for correct pickup setting.

The three-channel master of the recording was used for the mastering of this hybrid SACD. There is both a stereo and a three-channel track on the SACD data layer. The Analogue Productions reissue is very free and airy and a little more restrained than the FIM K2HD of this title. An excellent choice for owners of a SACD player. Those who can only listen to the CD track will find the FIM version to be more punchy and aggressive, but also a little less natural. Surround system owners should listen to the original mix in three-channel stereo.

This recording is part of a series of 25 Verve reissues on Analogue Productions. The original Analogue tapes are re-mastered by senior mastering engineer George Marino at Sterling Sound in New York. Many of the tapes have been sent to other labels as copies for decades, but Sterling Sound works so closely with Universal Music, which owns the Verve label, that they occasionally make an exception. The hybrid SACDs sound excellent and clearly outshine earlier digitisation.

We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
