Descriere

“A Unique Classical Guitar Collection” offers an impressive showcase of classical guitar music from the Swedish label Opus 3, which was compiled with the help of Peder Riis. Riis is the founder and director of the Stockholm Guitar Quartet and has held a professorship in classical guitar at Lund University since the 1980s. Jan-Eric Persson discovered the Stockholm Guitar Quartet 28 years ago. The first recording became the first major success and bestseller for the label, which was only two years old at the time. Two further albums followed in 1980 and 1991, which significantly cemented the reputation of both the quartet and the label. “A Unique Classical Guitar Collection” also includes music from the Opus 3 releases by the Stockholm Guitar Trio, the guitar duo Duodecima, and Peder Riis’ solo album. Matthias Böde on the SACD version in STEREO 2/2007: „Once again, the Scandinavian label OPUS 3 delivers a prime example of natural sound quality. Swedish guitar ensembles, including quartets, play arrangements of more or less well-known symphonic pieces from the Baroque to the modern era for their instrument. A low-key, spatially captivating recording in which the guitars were captured from a distance so that they sound as if they are playing in an acoustic environment and not, as is sometimes the case, directly in the loudspeaker.”

To this day, the Stockholm Guitar Quartet is the only guitar quartet in the world that transcribes and performs music for four differently tuned guitars. All of the instruments in this quartet come from the workshop of Georg Bolin. The third album features the first use of special 8-string instruments made by this luthier. All of the recordings were made in churches at the time.

Opus 3 is an independent Swedish music label dedicated to recording timeless acoustic music such as jazz, blues, folk and classical. Founded in late 1976 by sound engineer Jan-Eric Persson, the label has made it its mission to reproduce voices and instruments as naturally as possible. To achieve this, Opus 3 selects recording environments with good natural. The label’s recording techniques were developed specifically for acoustic music and were originally based on the use of tube gear and “Blumlein” miking. In 2001, Opus 3 switched to digital eight-track technology and later to 16 channels – in the brand-new mixing and mastering studio designed and set up by Sweden’s leading acoustic engineer Lennart Nilsson to mark the label’s 30th anniversary. Apart from a few digital intermediate steps all processing is still done exclusively analog.

We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
