Stan Getz Quartet – Live At Zardi’s 1956 [Mono] (UHQCD dublu)

On June 22 and 27, 1956, Stan Getz and his quartet gave two legendary concerts at a famous club on Hollywood Boulevard: Zardi’s Jazzland. In the spring of 2025, nearly 70 years later, the musical treasure hunters at The Lost Recordings stumbled upon the original tapes of these concerts in a Chicago suburb. The setlist is varied, but the lineup remains the same: pianist Lou Levy, who brilliantly embodied the West Coast sound and whose style perfectly complemented Getz’s burgeoning artistic vision of the time, Max Bennett on bass, and Gary Frommer on drums. Here, Getz conveys the gentle atmosphere and cool vibe that he and his audience loved so much. The journey of the first evening ends with a swinging improvisation that transports listeners to the glowing starry skies of California. The second evening was also musically impressive: from the irresistible ballad “Little Girl Blue” to the Afro-Cuban theme “A Night in Tunisia” composed by Dizzy Gillespie, all the way to Gershwin’s “Summertime,” every single note was carried by inspiration. Thanks to TLR, these legendary concerts are now seeing the light of day as a brilliantly sounding double UHQCD!

UHQCD stands for Ultimate High Quality Compact Disc and is a joint development of the Japanese CD replication company Memory-Tech and the Audio Quality CD Company from Hong Kong. Unlike conventional CDs, UHQCDs are not pressed from polycarbonate, but cast from a photopolymer and cured with UV light. Another layer of high-purity polycarbonate is applied to the softer photopolymer for scratch protection. The combination results in significantly reduced reflection of laser light inside the CD and an unmatched precise edge transition between pits and lands of the CD. UHQCDs are 100% compatible with standard CD players. Musically, the result is a sound image strongly reminiscent of analog master tapes.
