Salena Jones – Ballad With Luv (UHQCD)

Although Salena Jones has recorded 43 solo albums and 22 singles, she is unfortunately still relatively unknown. However, “Ballad With Luv,” recorded in 1980 as a follow-up to the album “Stormy With Love,” has become a classic in the audiophile community. “Ballad With Luv” is a colorful mix of well-known standards from the world of pop, which Salena Jones interprets in a refreshingly different way. The track “I Can See Clearly Now” in particular, with its great brass section and various percussion instruments providing support, has the element of surprise on its side. The other tracks are calm and dreamy, but Salena always manages to bring her own emotional component to them. In Japan, her beautiful, moving and completely natural voice has made her a star.

Selena Jones began her career in New York at a young age and moved to England in 1967. She has been performing continuously for over seven decades and has collaborated with numerous music legends from around the world, including Louis Armstrong, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Sarah Vaughan and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

“Ballad With Luv” was produced by Andy Lam and Rix Ching and remastered with DXD (352.8 kHz/24 bit) in the professional Pyramix workstation. In addition, the Japanese-made Ultimate Hi-Quality CD (UHQCD) and MQA encoding (176.4 kHz) were selected for the production of this CD in order to faithfully preserve the superior sound quality of this album. The exclusive Japan edition of Modern Recordings, licensed by JVC, comes with OBI stripe.

UHQCD stands for Ultimate High Quality Compact Disc and is a joint development of the Japanese CD replication company Memory-Tech and the Audio Quality CD Company from Hong Kong. Unlike conventional CDs, UHQCDs are not pressed from polycarbonate, but cast from a photopolymer and cured with UV light. Another layer of high-purity polycarbonate is applied to the softer photopolymer for scratch protection. The combination results in significantly reduced reflection of laser light inside the CD and an unmatched precise edge transition between pits and lands of the CD. UHQCDs are 100% compatible with standard CD players. Musically, the result is a sound image strongly reminiscent of analog master tapes.
