On “Grand Finale: Andrés Segovia Archive,” the gifted guitarist Roberto Moronn Pérez interprets works that represent fundamental milestones in the guitar repertoire of the 20th century. The starting point for this unique project is a collection of pieces that were rediscovered in May 2001 in Segovia’s archive in Spain. These pieces were dedicated to Segovia or commissioned by him and were written by composers from eight countries. The first release based on this collection, “The Segovia Archive Series”, was published by Edizione Musicale Bèrben. Pérez explains: “At the beginning of the 20th century, the way people thought about music changed. As part of this debate, the expressive potential of the guitar was rediscovered. The compelling charisma and virtuosity of Andrés Segovia (1893–1987) inspired composers who were not guitarists themselves to write music for him, leading to a significant expansion of the repertoire for this instrument. This collection of little-known or, in some cases, almost completely neglected works was the focus of my three previous releases, which contain pieces of the highest quality. With the intention of closing the circle and offering a more holistic perspective, I felt it appropriate not to ignore those pieces that the Spanish virtuoso himself performed and recorded and which are considered highlights of the Segovia repertoire”.

Born in Spain, Roberto Moronn Pérez studied in Madrid, Italy, and the United Kingdom, graduating from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid with a First Class Honours Degree in Musicology. He completed postgraduate studies at the renowned Royal Academy of Music in London, where he was awarded the Julian Bream Prize. As a prize winner of numerous international competitions, Pérez has performed as a soloist in Spain, Switzerland, Italy, the USA, Great Britain, Ukraine, Germany, and Japan, and has played with numerous Spanish orchestras. He recently performed the famous Concierto de Aranjuez with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. Pérez is currently professor of guitar at the Conservatorio de Madrid. “Grand Finale,” the fourth and final chapter of the “Andrés Segovia Archive” series, was recorded in the beautiful acoustics of Holy Trinity Church in Weston, Hertfordshire, UK. Produced, edited and mastered by the outstanding British sound engineer John Taylor, it is an absolute must for lovers of classical guitar music!

Reference Recordings has recorded and produced many GRAMMY Award-winning CDs, hybrid SACDs and LPs in the classical, jazz, blues, and world music genres over the past few years. Most of the releases are recorded with their own team and with the conviction that the sound of a recording is just as important as the music itself.

We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
