Phil Woods Quartet – Woodlore [Mono] (SACD hibrid mono)

Although alto saxophonist Phil Woods had previously recorded with Jimmy Raney and his trumpeter Jon Eardley, Woodlore was only his second album as a leader. Although the recording is almost 60 years old, it has lost none of its freshness. Woods is bursting with energy and shows that he has a perfect command of the fundamentals of bebop.

In addition to the standards ‘Slow Boat to China’, ‘Be My Love’ and ‘Woodlore’, the quartet also presents two original compositions. John Williams plays piano, Teddy Kotick bass and Nick Stabulas drums.

The hybrid mono SACD is released in a mini-LP cover as part of a series of 50 reissues from the legendary Prestige label. There will be 25 mono and 25 stereo recordings. The mastering was done by Kevin Gray at his Cohearent Audio Studios.

We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
