On Winds of War and Peace, Lowell Graham conducts the National Symphonic Winds through a programme of stirring marches. Liberty Fanfare was composed for the Statue of Liberty’s centennial in 1986 – one of the most spectacular celebrations in American history. Samuel Barber’s Commando March, written in 1943, is his first orchestral work. And Roger Nixon’s Festival Fanfare March was recognised as an outstanding composition by the American Bandmasters Association in 1973.
David Wilson’s highly acclaimed recordings are an audiophile’s delight. The head of perhaps the world’s most exclusive loudspeaker company, David Wilson began recording the musicians and music he loved in 1977. Always acoustic, always unamplified. For Winds of War and Peace, he used minimal Sennheiser microphones and the Wilson Ultramaster, a heavily modified Studer tape deck with custom electronics designed by John Curl. Wilson’s aim was to get as close as possible to the sound and music he was recording. In the years leading up to 1995, 33 tracks were created (27 of which were released), reflecting the way Wilson himself prefers to hear music live. The remastering for the Hybrid SACD from Analogue Productions was done by Kevin Gray.
We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
