These recordings were made in just five hours with the National Symphonic Winds under the direction of conductor Lowell Graham in the historic Hampton University Concert Hall (Hampton Roads, Virginia). Musicians from the finest military bands in the U.S., as well as the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, perform a lively selection of film scores and musical songs – from John Williams Olympic Fanfare (composed for the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles), to selections from Marry Poppins and West Side Story.
David Wilson’s highly acclaimed recordings are pure reason for audiophiles to rejoice. The head of arguably the world’s most exclusive loudspeaker manufacturer began recording musicians and music he appreciated himself in 1977. Always acoustically, always unamplified. For Center Stage, he used minimal Sennheiser miking and the Wilson Ultramaster, a heavily modified Studer tape deck with custom electronics designed by John Curl. Wilson’s goal: to get as close as possible to the sound and music he was recording. In the years leading up to 1995, he created 33 tracks (27 of which were released) that reflect how Wilson himself preferred to listen to live music.
We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
