John Coltrane – With The Red Garland Trio [Mono] (SACD hibrid mono)

For his second album, tenor saxophonist John Coltrane teamed up with Prestige colleague Red Garland on piano. Together they led the quartet, complemented by Paul Chambers on bass and Art Taylor on drums, through a set of five tracks. The centrepiece of the 1958 recording is undoubtedly Coltrane, who plays with equal parts confidence and ease. But Chambers also shows all his skills when, for example, he records and mirrors Coltrane’s complex compositions on ‘Bass Blues’.

The album was later renamed ‘Tranein’ In’ and featured a monochrome portrait of John Coltrane on the cover. The hybrid mono SACD appears in a mini-LP sleeve as part of a series of 50 reissues from the legendary Prestige label. There will be 25 mono and 25 stereo recordings. The mastering was done by Kevin Gray at his Cohearent Audio Studios.
