Jean Guillou’s interpretation of the toccatas and fugues refers to the latest edition of Johann Sebastian Bach’s collected works, the Leipzig „New Bach Edition”. His innovative and unconventional style has accompanied Guillou throughout his career both as an organist and as a teacher. His technical skills and improvisational ability have made him one of the leading international organists.

His leadership by example coupled with profound technical know-how enabled the construction of amazing new organs for various European cathedrals and concert halls in theory and design, expanding the potential of the instruments.

For any Bach lover, and especially the friends of his organ compositions, this album is an absolute must. Thanks to Guillou’s inspired playing, the organ in Breda Cathedral – one of the largest in the Netherlands – literally awakens from its slumber. The recording was made on November 15-17, 1984, with Scott Hull mastering the original tapes at Masterdisk Studios Inc. in Peekskill, NY.
