Jackie McLean – Jackie’s Pal [Mono] (SACD hibrid mono)

Jackie McLean was already an established prestige artist when he engaged trumpeter Bill Hardman for a recording in 1956. Together with Mal Waldron on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums, the result was ‘Jackie’s Pal’. Hardman does not sound as powerful here as on his later collaborations with The Messengers, but his style is clearly recognisable.

The hybrid mono SACD comes in a mini-LP sleeve as part of a series of 50 reissues from the legendary Prestige label. There will be 25 mono and 25 stereo recordings. The mastering was done by Kevin Gray at his Cohearent Audio Studios.
