Originally released in 1961 as Blue Note 84074, this album features pianist Horace Parlan playing with both Turrentine brothers. But that is only part of the magic of these recordings. George Tucker and Al Harewood had been playing with Horace Parlan as a rhythm section for so long that they were practically a unit, and the album focused on the rhythm of hard bop.
Tommy Turrentine on trumpet and Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone play with Horace Parlan on piano, George Tucker on bass and Al Harewood on drums. The horns add a bluesy feel to the jazz.
This track is part of a series of XRCD24 reissues from the Blue Note catalogue and has been remastered from the analogue stereo tapes at Oceanway Studios in Hollywood by Alan Yoshida, one of the inventors of the XRCD process. The sonic qualities of the XRCDs, newly released under the Audio Wave label, far surpass previous digitisations and in some cases sound considerably better than the original LPs. The XRCD comes with a lavishly designed booklet with excellent photographs.
We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
