Blake Edward’s Peter Gunn was the surprise hit of the 1958 television season. The private detective’s cases, set in the jazz world, drew millions of viewers to their TV screens. Henry Mancini provided the famous theme and the very jazzy soundtrack to Gunn’s nocturnal forays through Los Angeles, and it was his music that contributed greatly to the show’s popularity. „The Music From Peter Gunn” is not only a great album, but also a key piece of jazz and pop music history.
With the driving, ominous, exciting title theme that opens the album, The Music From Peter Gunn became a huge hit. The album reached the top of the charts – unusual for a TV soundtrack – and did so well that RCA asked Mancini to do a follow-up the following year („More Music From Peter Gunn”). Many other artists later recorded „Peter Gunn” and scored hits with their cover versions, including Ray Anthony, Duane Eddy, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, The Blues Brothers and Art of Noise.
Remastered from the original analogue tapes by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound, The Music From Peter Gunn is now available on SACD for the first time.
We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
