Freddie Hubbard – Open Sesame (XRCD24)

Freddie Hubbard was just 22 years old when he recorded this album for Blue Note in 1960 at Rudy Van Gelder’s studio. The „open sesame” in the title is ambiguous. On the one hand, Hubbard wanted to show himself to the world, and on the other, the Blue Note label wanted to establish a new leader. It is amazing how easily trumpeter Freddie Hubbard worked with experienced professionals like McCoy Tyner on piano and at the same time was able to bring his very own warm style to jazz.

In addition to Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, the album features Tina Brooks on tenor sax, McCoy Tyner on piano, Sam Jones on bass and Clifford Javis on drums. Hubbard’s entry into the world of great jazz musicians was extremely successful.

This title is part of a series of XRCD24 reissues from the Blue Note catalogue and has been remastered from the analogue stereo tapes at Oceanway Studios in Hollywood by Alan Yoshida, one of the inventors of the XRCD process. The sound quality of the XRCDs, newly released under the Audio Wave label, goes far beyond previous digitisations and in some cases sounds considerably better than the original LPs. The XRCDs come with a lavishly designed booklet with excellent photography.

We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
