Coleman Hawkins – Coleman Hawkins and his Confrères (SACD hibrid)

As a member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Ben Webster gained confidence in his playing and learned to hold his own against musical giants such as Paul Gonsalves and Jimmy Hamilton. Coleman Hawkins enjoyed his fame at numerous Jazz At The Philharmonic concerts around the world, where he also had to hold his own against many other saxophonists. Two such JATP ensembles can be heard on ‘Coleman Hawkins and Confrères’. The relaxed atmosphere is particularly evident on ‘Sunday’, where Roy Eldridge steals the spotlight with a brilliant solo. Hawkins’ voluminous, mellow sound, which has influenced the likes of Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins and Joe Lavano, is beautifully heard on ‘Honey Flower’. Hawkins and Webster are joined by Ray Brown, George Duvivier, Herb Ellis, Hank Jones, Oscar Peterson, Mickey Sheen and Alvin Stoller.

We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
