Billie Holiday – Songs For Distingue Lovers (Vinil 180g, LP dublu)

Jazz singer Billie Holiday sang as intensely as she lived. At just 44, ‘Lady Day’, as Lester Young called her, died after a life of violence and drugs, leaving behind a significant musical legacy. With her bluesy, Bessie Smith-influenced voice, she changed the sound of American pop forever. She infused her songs with her personality, making them her own and breaking away from the commercial, light fare of Tin Pan Alley. The result was a singing style that was unmistakable – an almost shocking fact in an age of interchangeable singers and bands. This recording is a prime example of that development.

There is no doubt that Holiday’s voice changed in the 50s. It became darker, deeper, more expressive and at the same time so full of feeling that the songs went straight to the heart of the listener. A six-day recording session in 1957 produced Songs for Distingue Lovers, a legendary album of six of the singer’s finest songs. She is accompanied by an all-star cast of Harry ‘Sweets’ Edison, Ben Webster, Jimmie Rowles, Joe Mondragon, Barney Kessel, Red Mitchell, Alvin Stoller and Larry Bunker.

We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
