American jazz pianist Barbara Carroll began playing the piano at the age of five and later, while studying at the New England Conservatory of Music, performed at night with a band in the Boston area and also toured with her “All Girls” trio at U.S. Army camps in New England. In 1947, she moved to New York City, where she was taken under the wing of Leonard Feather. As an admirer of the Great American Songbook, she seemed to be familiar with every popular standard ever written. She was a leading interpreter of the works of Cole Porter and the team of Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh. In her later career, she also devoted herself to songs by Stephen Sondheim. “I Wished On The Moon” was recorded on March 29 and 30, 2006, at “The Studio” in New York, USA, and was produced, mixed, and mastered by Tetsuo Hara.
“Among female pianists, Barbara Carroll was considered the first to venture into the progressive bebop style most closely associated with Bud Powell … While Carroll did not ignore the pop styles of the following decades, she always managed to maintain a strong jazz character in every piece she played. If swing were a laurel leaf, one might say that Carroll had a large bush growing right outside her kitchen window. She recorded for many of the genre’s leading labels, including Verve and Atlantic, and remained in demand at clubs and cabarets well into her nineties; she performed regularly at Birdland in Manhattan until December 2016.”
(Eugene Chadbourne, AllMusic)
“Ms. Carroll plays with impeccable technique, allowing harmonies to blossom. In recent decades, she has devoted herself to singing in the parlando style, which is witty, literary, discreetly sexy, and at times heartbreakingly honest.” (Stephen Holder, The New York Times)

Venus Records was founded in Japan in 1992 by Tetsuo Hara, who had previously worked as a producer for RCA Victor. The renowned label uses a special mastering process called “Hyper Magnum Sound,” which produces a powerful, dynamic sound and is highly regarded by audiophiles worldwide. A quick note: Venus LPs are pressed only once. Once the run is sold out, the title is removed from the catalog and will not be reissued. Collectors should therefore not wait too long to place their orders: the releases from the “Venus Masterpiece Collection” are extremely popular!
We recommend the use of „L’Art du Son” LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
