Alexander Gibson & London Symphony – Sibelius: Symphony No. 5 and Karelia Suite (SACD hibrid)

The Scottish conductor and opera director conducted the London Symphony Orchestra in Kingsway Hall for this recording. Decca sound engineer Kenneth Wilkinson positioned the orchestra further back than usual and achieved a remarkably transparent stage image. Gibson, who had a great affinity for Scandinavian composers, especially Jean Sibelius, presents his impressive Fifth Symphony with the orchestra in his usual first-class quality. It is no coincidence that the conductor has been awarded the Sibelius Medal for his services to the music of the Finnish composer.

The remastering for the Hybrid SACD from Analogue Productions was carried out by Willem Makee.
